
Beavers Finish Fourth at Pac-12 Championships

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Despite hitting all 24 routines No. 12 Oregon State scored 196.900 and finished fourth at Pac-12 Championships Saturday evening in from of a 14,402 at Utah's Huntsman Center. Sophomores Kaytianna McMillan and Madeline Gardiner led the Beavers with all-around scores of 39.375 and 39.325 respectively.
“I'm proud of the performance we put out there tonight,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “It's not easy to start on the beam and we went out and hit 24-for-24 routines. We made some little lineup changes this week as we prepare for the postseason and everyone stepped up and did their job well.”
Oregon State opened the meet on the balance beam where scoring was tough. Gardiner and Risa Perez each posted scores of 9.850 which at the time tied for the top beam score of the day, matching the best the afternoon session had to offer. Kaytianna McMillan added a score of 9.825 for the Beavers who totaled 49.000 on the event.
Heading to the second event, the Beavers trailed Utah (49.675), UCLA (49.275) and Stanford (49.275). The Beavers turned it up on the floor exercise with Perez, McMillan and Chelsea Tang each scoring 9.90. However, it was Jamie Radermacher performing just her second competitive routine at OSU that set the tone for the Beavers with a lead off 9.850. The floor team racked up OSU's highest total of the night with a 49.325.
The Beavers remained in fourth place at the halfway point with a score of 98.325 to Utah's 99.225. Moving to the vault OSU once again came out with a strong start as freshman Dani Dessaints posted a career-high 9.825 in the lead off role. McMillan added a career-best 9.90 at the end of the lineup, Erika Aufiero scored 9.875 and Taylor Keeker added a 9.825.
OSU was still in fourth going to the uneven bars to finish the meet. For the third straight meet, the Beavers posted their highest bars score of the season tallying 49.300. Silvia Colussi-Pelaez scored a career-best 9.90 and Aufiero added one of her own. Gardiner and Tang each marked at 9.850 and Keeker scored 9.80.
The Beavers' season resumes in two weeks at NCAA Regionals on Saturday, April 4. OSU will learn its regional destination when seedings are announced on Monday. Regionals will be held at Auburn, California, Iowa State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and West Virginia.
