TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 10 Oregon State gymnastics team scored 196.275 in a convincing road win at Arizona State (193.475) Friday night. Senior Taylor Keeker and sophomore Madeline Gardiner led the Beavers with each winning a pair of event titles.
“We weren't spot on tonight like last week,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “We created some adversity for ourselves at the front of the lineups but the back ends really carried us tonight for the most part. I told the team after the meet that we need to be on point every night, but that I was proud they picked each other up and finished the event strong."
For the second straight meet, the Beavers performed without a competitor in the all-around further emphasizing the outstanding all-around team effort.
Opening the meet on the uneven bars, senior Taylor Keeker set a career-best for the second week in a row to open the meet scoring 9.850. Keeker's score held up to tie with fellow Beaver Kaytianna McMillan for the event title. Chelsea Tang added a score of 9.80 as the Beavers took a slim 48.950-48.700 lead after the first event.
The OSU vault team widened the gap in the second stanza notching the evening's highest rotation score of 49.200. Keeker scored a 9.90 in the anchor position to win her second event title of the night while Megan Jimenez tied her career-best with a 9.875. Gardiner added a 9.850 to help power the Beavers' vault team.
With a commanding 98.150-97.350 lead at the half, Gardiner took over scoring a 9.90 on the floor exercise to win the event. McMillan and Tang each added scores of 9.850 while Risa Perez scored 9.825 to help the Beavers to a 49.125 team score.
Leading 147.275-145.075, OSU went to the balance beam for the final rotation. The beam team scored 49.000 to close out the meet with Gardiner leading the way with a 9.875 to take top honors. Tang scored 9.850 and McMillan added a 9.80.
