Beavers Blitz Bears, Post Season-Best 197.250

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 10 Oregon State gymnastics team was lights out Friday night eclipsing the 197-point mark for the first time in 2015 as the Beavers defeated No. 20 California 197.250-196.225.
“It was a good night. We've come a long way in the last couple meets especially on the floor,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “We still have a few things to clean up on the beam and really everywhere. But it is really nice to score a 197 on the road.”
For the second straight week, the Beavers posted scores of 49-points or better on all four events including a season-best 49.600 on the floor exercise.
Opening the meet on the uneven bars, senior Taylor Keeker set a career-best 9.825 to open the meet setting up Silvia Colussi-Pelaez for a 9.850 in the first bars routine of her college career. Erika Aufiero scored 9.925 to win the event as the Beavers scored 49.175 in the opening rotatin.
Trailing Cal after the opening rotation 49.300-49.175, the Beavers moved to the vault where they just missed scoring a season-high settling for a 49.350. Aufiero set a career-high with a 9.925, while Keeker, Gardiner and Megan Jimenez each posted scores of 9.875.
Having taken the lead at the halfway point 98.525-98.475, the Beavers stretched that lead in the third stanza scoring 49.600 with all five counting scores coming in at 9.90 or higher. Career-high scores of 9.925 for Chelsea Tang, Kaytianna McMillan and Risa Perez as well as Gardiner and a career-best 9.90 from Cerise Witherby gave the Beavs a commanding lead.
Leading 148.125-147.025 OSU moved to the beam for the final rotation and scored 49.125. Perez led the Beavers with a 9.875 while McMillan and Witherby added scores of 9.850.
Oregon State remains on the road next week traveling to Tempe, Ariz. to face Arizona State next Friday, Feb. 20, in the Beavers' second straight road trip.
