Corvallis, Ore. – Oregon State sophomore 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser moved up three spots in one poll and two spots in another on Tuesday following a third-place performance at last weekend's Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
The defending Pacific-12 Conference champion, Bresser is now ranked No. 6 by InterMat and No. 7 by The Open Mat. He was No. 9 in both polls the previous week.
The Beavers (2-3) remained No. 23 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll. They moved up two spots to No. 19 in InterMat's tournament rankings and remained No. 21 in InterMat's team rankings.
Bresser went 5-1 at the Cliff Keen event, with wins over InterMat No. 8 Barlow McGhee (Missouri), No. 9 David Terao (American) and No. 12 Paul Petrov (Bucknell). His only loss was to No. 3 Joey Dance of Virginia Tech.
Bresser (11-4) is 6-3 vs. ranked opponents this season. He's defeated McGhee (8); Terao (9); Nebraska's Tim Lambert (10); Petrov (12); West Virginia's Zeke Moisey (13), the 2015 NCAA runner-up, and Sean McCabe (18) of Rutgers.
His losses were to Dance (3); Dylan Peters (7) of Northern Iowa and Chasen Tolbert (11) of Utah Valley.
Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi (10-0) remained No. 5 in both the InterMat and The Open Mat rankings. Dhesi took second at 125 kilograms at the Canadian Wrestling Team Trials in Sherwood Park, Alberta, last weekend and did not compete in Las Vegas.
Redshirt junior 133-pounder Joey Palmer (10-5) went 3-2 in Las Vegas. He moved up one spot to No. 16 in The Open Mat rankings and stayed No. 20 in InterMat's poll.
Senior 165-pounder Seth Thomas (8-4) and redshirt sophomore 197-pounder Cody Crawford (7-6) dropped out of both polls.
The Beavers are the only Pac-12 team in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Top 25. Stanford also received votes. Penn State stayed No. 1, followed by Iowa, Ohio State, Nebraska and North Carolina State.
OSU resumes dual-meet action on Dec. 18 when it hosts Clackamas Community College in a 7 p.m. matchup at Gill Coliseum. The Cougars are one of the premier junior college programs on the West Coast.
