December 21, 2015 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State baseball team will open the 2016 ranked eighth by Collegiate Baseball. The publication announced its top 40 for the 2016 preseason on Monday.
The Beavers, who are the top-ranked team from the Pac-12 Conference, are just one point shy of No. 7 LSU and three behind sixth-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette. Florida is No. 1, followed by Louisville, Vanderbilt, Miami and Texas A&M.
Oregon State is coming off a 39-18-1 season, taking second in the Pac-12 with a 19-10-1 mark. The Beavers advanced to the Dallas Regional, defeating Texas in the opener before dropping the final two games.
In October, D1Baseball.com rated the Beavers' freshman class as the ninth-best in the nation. Nick Madrigal, Cadyn Grenier and Trevor Larnach all spurned MLB teams after being taken in the draft to play for Oregon State. OSU also returns 2015 Freshman All-Americans KJ Harrison, Drew Rasmussen and Mitch Hickey.
