December 01, 2015 | Wrestling
Corvallis, Ore. – Five Oregon State wrestlers remain in the Top 20 in the weekly rankings released by InterMat and The Open Mat on Tuesday.
The Beavers (2-3), who were idle over the Thanksgiving weekend, remained No. 23 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll. They moved up one spot to No. 21 in InterMat's tournament and team rankings.
Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi leads the Beavers in the polls, as he remained No. 5 in both the InterMat and The Open Mat rankings. Dhesi (10-0) will attend the Canadian Wrestling Team Trials in Sherwood Park, Alberta, this weekend. A native of Surrey, British Columbia, he is vying for a spot on the 2016 Canadian Olympic team that will compete in Rio de Janeiro.
Sophomore 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser (6-3) is ranked No. 9 by The Open Mat and by InterMat. Senior 165-pounder Seth Thomas (7-2) dropped a spot to No. 13 in InterMat's rankings and remained at No. 18 by The Open Mat.
Redshirt junior 133-pounder Joey Palmer (7-3) is ranked No. 17 by The Open Mat and No. 20 by InterMat. Redshirt sophomore 197-pounder Cody Crawford (5-4) is ranked No. 20 by The Open Mat, but is not ranked by InterMat.
The Beavers are the only Pac-12 team in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Top 25. Stanford also received votes. Penn State stayed No. 1, followed by Iowa, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Nebraska.
The ranked Beavers will have ample opportunities to burnish their credentials at this weekend's Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. OSU finished 10th last year in the two-day tournament, which starts Friday and features many of the country's premier competitors.
