October 04, 2015 | Women's Rowing
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oregon State women's rowing team took a season-opening trip to the Head of the Oklahoma regatta Saturday and came away with a pair of victories.
The Beavers sent just one crew, the Varsity 8, to Oklahoma City, for the program's first-ever time competing at the Head of the Oklahoma, and it pulled off wins in both of its races.
“The crew raced well,” head coach Emily Ford said. “They did a good job handling a new environment and sticking with their plan. Thanks to everyone here in Oklahoma for the great hospitality.”
In the afternoon head race, Oregon State covered the 2.5-mile course in a time of 14-minutes, 33.18-seconds. The Beavers' closest competition came from Tulsa's “A” crew which clocked in at 14:44.10.
The Beavers returned to the water in the evening for the OCE NightSprints under the lights along the Oklahoma River. OSU's V8 motored down the 500-meter course in just 1:27.13 in the Grand Final, finishing more than three seconds ahead of Oklahoma's “B” crew which finished in 1:30.78.
Oregon State returns to competition in three weeks when the Beavers face University of Portland in the Rose City, October 24.
