Local Media Day
October 26, 2015 | Women's Basketball
The Oregon State women's basketball team hosted its Local Media Day Tuesday morning at the OSU Basketball Complex, as local reporters had a chance to speak with coaches and members of the team. Below are some selected quotes from the media day:
Head Coach Scott Rueck:
On the freshman class…
“All three of our freshmen have fit in beautifully, and this group of upperclassmen has set the stage for them in many ways. They've been included since day one like they're part of the family, and that was evident in August, once the Italy practices started. After that trip, they almost feel like sophomores.”
On the core group of seniors…
“I like the word preventative. They do everything right and it prevents any issues that could get in their way. They remove stumbling blocks. They're an incredible group, and they're a group that believed in us when there wasn't much to believe in other than a vision. They've made that vision a reality. I'm expecting big things from them this year, and I know they are too.”
On the team being picked first in the Pac-12 Poll…
“Pressure is a privilege. This team has never backed down from a challenge, and I'd be shocked if they don't look this season square in the eye and attack it. This is a hungry group, this is not a group that is satisfied. There's more business for them, and they want to go further than they did a year ago.”
On how the team can keep improving this season…
“As a staff, you're always reevaluating, and seeing what you can do better. There are things we're looking to do a little bit differently this year, and I think the team is in a position to take on a little bit more.”
On entering the season with five seniors in their last college season…
“There's definitely a sense of urgency. We had that with Ali last year, but now there are five of them. They're working so hard, and that's been pushing us in practice. Once the games start, we're going to come out with fire.”
On being part of a team so close to where she grew up (Albany, Ore.)…
“It's been amazing. Having already been part of this community before I got here, I already had a lot of connections. Getting to see all of those people come watch the games. It's been awesome to be a part of something like Beaver Nation.”
On looking back on her time with the Beavers…
“It's gone by so fast, but I wouldn't trade a minute of it. It's been an amazing experience and I'm just looking forward another great year. This is going to be the best year yet.”
