LOS ANGELES – The top-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to USC Sunday at Dedeaux Field.

The game marked the regular season finale for both clubs. Oregon State ended it with a 42-12 overall record and 23-7 mark in Pac-12 Conference play. USC, meanwhile, ended it with a 29-24 overall mark and 16-14 record against league foes.

The teams traded unearned runs early on. USC scored in the first on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jake Hernandez. The Beavers evened the score in the third when Michael Howard doubled and Jeff Hendrix managed to score from first after an errant throw by USC right fielder Omar Cotto Lozada.

The Trojans went up 2-1 in the fifth. Garrett Stubbs singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Reggie Southall singled up the middle.

USC added to its lead with a two-out double off the bat of Jake Hernandez. Kevin Swick managed to come in from first, narrowly beating the throw from left.

Andrew Moore started for Oregon State and took the loss, dropping to 5-5 on the year. He allowed four hits and two runs – one earned – in 4 2/3 innings of work.

The win went to USC starter Kyle Davis, who scattered five hits and an unearned run in a complete-game effort. He struck out 14.

The club will now wait to find out its postseason details. The 16 host sites will be announced at 6 p.m. PT Sunday with the entire field revealed at 9 a.m. PT Monday on ESPNU. Fans are invited to join the team in watching the show at the Club Level of Reser Stadium. Note, concessions will not be open so fans are encouraged to bring their breakfast and watch the show.
