
Volleyball Falls In Civil War Match

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lila Toner led the Beavers with 10 kills in her first career Pac-12 Conference match but the Oregon State volleyball team lost to No. 21 Oregon Wednesday night in front of 2,214 fans at Gill Coliseum.
The matchup was the first of the year between the teams in the Civil War, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Wells Fargo Bank and Your Local Ford Stores.
Set scores were 17-25, 18-25 and 19-25.
“We did not pass the ball well tonight,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “Conversely, we were not able to put pressure on them with our serving.”
Toner led the Beavers (9-3 overall, 0-1 Pac-12) with her 10 kills, and hit .125. Oregon State finished with a .173 hitting percentage compared to Oregon's .413. Liz Brenner led the Ducks (8-3, 1-0) with 15 kills.
Oregon State managed 35 assists to 42 for Oregon. The Ducks also had 35 digs to the Beavers' 27. Becky Defoe was OSU's leader with 11 digs.
The Ducks took set one, 25-17, by out-hitting Oregon State .387 to .030. Oregon State held the lead once during the frame, early on, and the set saw three tie scores.
The Beavers again led early in set two, up as much as 8-4, but the Ducks were able to come back and take the frame 25-18. The Beavers hit better at .222 but so did the Ducks at .469.
The teams were tied at 19 late in set three but Oregon went on a 6-0 run to claim victory, 25-19. The set saw six lead changes and 14 tie scores.
Oregon State stays at home Friday to host Washington State at 6 p.m. PT. It can be seen live on the Pac-12 Networks.
