Baseball Drops Series Finale To Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State's five-run eighth overcame a late Oregon State lead as the Sun Devils took Saturday's series finale, 5-1, at Packard Stadium to earn a series sweep.
The Beavers took a 1-0 lead into the eighth courtesy of a Jake Rodriguez run-scoring single in the fourth. But the Sun Devils tied the game on a bloop single to center by Abe Ruiz, then took the lead when James McDonald singled up the middle.
Max Rossiter capped off the inning with a three-run home run off reliever Cole Brocker. Four of the runs in Arizona State's (19-12 overall, 6-6 Pac-12 Conference) eighth inning came with two outs.
Jace Fry threw a quality start, allowing seven hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings but took the loss to drop to 2-2 this season.
Arizona State reliever Robert Ravago was the recipient of Arizona State's late run support, picking up the win to improve to 3-0 this season. He worked 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relif.
Oregon State (18-11, 6-6) chased Arizona State starter Darin Gillies after three innings. The right-hander allowed five hits and one run over that stretch.
McDonald and Andrew Aplin both had two hits to lead Arizona State offensively.
Oregon State's Tyler Smith extended his season-long hit streak to 11 games with a single in the third.
The Beavers now visit Reno for a two-game series starting Monday against Nevada at Peccole Park. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
