LOS ANGELES - Kavin Keyes and John Tommasini both had two hits but the Oregon State baseball team lost its series finale at USC, 6-2, Sunday at Dedeaux Field. The Trojans won the last two games to claim the series.
Keyes and Tommasini both reached via a pair of singles to lead Oregon State offensively. The Beavers tallied nine hits while USC managed 14 - just one going for extra bases, a double in the seventh.
Dan Child started and allowed 10 hits - all singles - in three innings of work before being relieved by Taylor Starr in the fourth. USC netted five runs on those 10 hits to saddle Child with the loss, dropping him to 4-3 on the year.
Stephen Tarpley started for USC and improved to 5-1 after holding the Beavers to six hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings. He walked one, struck out five and threw 107 pitches.
The Trojans (22-17 overall, 7-10 Pac-12 Conference) scored four in the second off Child, taking a 4-2 lead. Adam Landecker drove in two with a single up the middle while Andres Rodriguez and Kevin Roundtree drove in one apiece.
USC added to its lead in the third when Roundtree singled again, driving in James Roberts.
The Beavers (28-14, 9-9) opened the scoring for the sixth consecutive game and in quick order. Back-to-back doubles by Ryan Barnes and Tyler Smith to open the game netted OSU its first run and Ryan Gorton made it 2-0 with a single to center, his first hit of the series.
Roberts had three hits to lead USC while Landecker and Matt Foat had two apiece.
