SURPRISE, Ariz. - Dylan Davis homered and drove in four as the Oregon State baseball team finished with 16 hits overall in an 11-3 win over Northern Illinois on Sunday.
The win caps a 3-1 weekend for the Beavers at the Coca-Cola Classic as Oregon State improved to 8-4 on the year. Northern Illinois, meanwhile, dropped to 0-11 on the year.
Davis finished the game 4-for-4. He started off his day with a three-run home run in the first, marking his first career round-tripper. The freshman drove in a run on an infield single in the third, then doubled in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring both times.
Fellow freshman Michael Conforto and junior Tyler Smith both had three hits with the latter driving in two.
The Beavers found themselves up 4-3 after five innings but blew the game open with a five-run sixth inning. Smith drove in two while Danny Hayes, Ryan Dunn and Kavin Keyes all posted an RBI in the frame.
OSU tacked on two more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dunn and a double by Jake Rodriguez.
Dunn and Keyes each had two hits in the win.
Riley Wilkerson started for the Beavers and left after 4 1/3 innings, picking up a no-decision. He scattered five hits and a run while striking out four and walking one.
Wilkerson exited with a 4-1 lead in favor of reliever Scott Schultz. Northern Illinois ended the fifth with three runs - all of which were charged to Wilkerson and pulled the Huskies to within one, 4-3.
Schultz picked up the win to improve to 1-0 in 2012 after allowing three hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Tony Manville started for Northern Illinois and took the loss to drop to 0-2 on the year. The right-hander allowed eight runs and 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.
Oregon State returns home this weekend for the Nike College Showcase. OSU opens the three-day, four-game event against West Virginia Friday in a 5:35 p.m. PT start at Goss Stadium.
