CORVALLIS, Ore. - Dan Child scattered six hits over eight innings and six players had two hits for the Beavers as the 22nd-ranked Oregon State baseball team took the second game of a doubleheader over Washington, 9-0, Saturday at Goss Stadium.
Washington won the first game of the doubleheader, 3-2, in 10 innings.
Ryan Dunn, Danny Hayes, Michael Conforto and Ryan Gorton all drove in two in game two for the Beavers, who improved to 16-8 overall this season and 5-3 in Pac-12 Conference play. The Huskies, meanwhile, dropped to 16-8 overall and 3-2 in league contests.
Dunn, Hayes and Gorton were joined by Tyler Smith, Dylan Davis and Ryan Barnes as Beavers with two hits in the 15-hit attack. Every Oregon State starter had at least one hit in the win, which was capped in the eighth by Conforto, who towered a two-run home run over the right field fence.
Five of the Beavers 15 hits went for extra bases, including two doubles by Barnes.
Child started and picked up the win for Oregon State after going eight full innings. He allowed just six hits while walking three. He struck out four and improved to 3-1 this season.
The Beavers chased Washington starter Tyler Davis after 4 2/3 innings, where he gave up eight hits and five runs to drop to 2-1 this season.
Oregon State took a 1-0 lead in the second when John Tommasini blooped a run-scoring single to center.
OSU added to its lead with two runs in the fourth -Dunn led off the inning with a solo home run and Gorton drove in his first of two with a single.
Two more runs came in the fifth. Dunn drove in Davis on a two-out single for his second RBI of the game and scored when Hayes singled to right.
Oregon State added two runs in the seventh when Hayes doubled home a run off UW reliever Steven Swift and scored himself when Gorton singled to right.
The Beavers dropped game one, 3-2, after the Huskies scored two in the 10th.
Conforto flied out to center to end the game with the tying run on third. The previous batter, Tyler Smith, had driven in the Beavers' second run on a 4-3 groundout.
The teams came into the 10th tied at one, and consecutive singles put Washington runners on the corners. Matt Boyd came on in relief of Tony Bryant, and two batters later, Joe Meggs drove in the Huskies' second run on a sacrifice squeeze with the Beavers nearly getting the runner, Caleb Brown, at the plate.
Robert Pehl drove in the Huskies' second run of the inning - the game-winner - on a single to right.
Smith led the Beavers with two hits while Branden Berry and Jacob Lamb had two apiece of the Huskies.
Both starters picked up quality starts but neither figured in the decision. Ben Wetzler allowed three hits and a run - the lone one coming in the first - with three walks and six strikeouts.
Washington's Aaron West went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and a run with three strikeouts.
Bryant took the loss for the Beavers after giving up three hits and two runs in 2/3 of an inning. He dropped to 3-1 this season.
Tyler Kane went 2 2/3 innings in relief for the Huskies and improved to 1-0 this season. He did not allow a hit or run in his outing.
Nick Palewicz got the final two outs of the game for his first save of the season.
Oregon State closes out its three-game series with Washington Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT. Tickets remain for the game and can be purchased at the Goss Stadium ticket office, which is set to open at 11 a.m. They can also be purchased on osubeavers.com.
