Corvallis, Ore. – Redshirt freshman Allie Rogers (Eugene, Ore.) led all hitters in the annual Orange and Black Scrimmage on Saturday afternoon in legendary Gill Coliseum.
“First, this scrimmage showed the depth of the team in that lots of our players can play multiple positions, and it's good to see real competition among our team for spots in first unit,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “Secondly, these freshmen are going to have an impact on this team, and it's great to see how the redshirt freshmen have matured in one year.”
Rogers tallied a team-high eight kills, hitting errorless, on 12 attempts. Backing her up was freshman Corinna Mommert (Paderborn, Germany) with seven, while freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) added six.
Redshirt freshman Tayla Woods (Corvallis, Ore.) directed the offense with 17 assists, while junior Megan McBride (Auburn, Wash.) added 13 and freshman Lexi Wilhelm (Escondido, Calif.) earned five.
Sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) paced the backcourt defense with 10 digs, while McBride and Nassar tallied a team-high four blocks each.
The Beavers played a pair of sets for the scrimmage with the first consisting of a general scrimmage with evenly matched teams, while the second set was the first unit vs. the second unit. Final set scores were 25-20 orange, 25-17 black (first unit).
