Beavers Drop Extra Innings Heartbreaker to No. 7 Bears

CORVALLIS - Tina Andreana pitched seven scoreless innings but the No. 7 California Golden Bears scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to win the final game of the series 4-0 on Mother's Day at the Oregon State softball complex.
Andreana held the Bears (37-9 overall, 13-5 Pacific-10 Conference) scoreless through seven innings and gave the Beavers a chance to win it in the seventh. Ashley Sanchez started the bottom of the seventh inning with a single down the left field line following a 12 pitch at-bat.
An Erin Guzy popup on the infield followed by a Paige Hall strikeout and a Desiree Beltran groundout ended the seveth for the Beavers and pushed the game into extra innings.
California led off the top of the eighth with Jamia Reid reaching on an error by the second baseman. She then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before stealing third with one out in the inning. A singled scored Reid from third for the game-winning run. California added three more runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead through 7 1/2 innings.
Oregon State (18-25, 1-17) had a runner on second with one out in the bottom of the eight but could not push any runs across and fell by the final score of 4-0.
Andreana allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out seven and walking in two in a career-high eight innings pitched. She fell to 5-14 in the losing effort.
Jolene Henderson picked up her third win on the weekend throwing a complete game and allowed no runs on three hits. She struck out eight Oregon State batter and improved her record to 33-6.
The Beavers are next in action in a mid-week non-conference game at Portland State on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at Erv Lind Stadium.
