Beavers Drop Mid-Week Game at Portland State, 1-0

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Oregon State softball team fell to Portland State Tuesday night by a score of 1-0 at Erv Lind Stadium in Portland, Ore. in its non-conference finale.
Lea Cavestany led off the game with a double to center field and was moved to third on a ground out by Ashley Sanchez but two consecutive fly ball outs ended the Beavers chances in the first.
Portland State (32-16 overall) got two runners on base with two outs in the bottom of the first but Oregon State starter Tina Andreana pitched her way out of trouble with a swinging strikeout to end the inning.
Andreana pitched five complete innings and gave up the one run on four hits. She walked four and struck out five Portland State batters in the losing effort. She fell to 5-15 on the season.
The Beavers (18-26) got the lead off runner on base in each of the next two innings but could not get anything going in either inning.
Portland State scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single through the right side after the leadoff hitter doubled down the left field line and then was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Hannah Bouska reached base on a hit by pitch in the top of the fifth inning with one out. She was then thrown out at second trying to steal on a controversial call for the second out. McKenna Lowe then grounded out to end the inning.
Andreana faced one batter in the bottom of the sixth before Paige Hall came in and got three consecutive outs to close out the inning.
The Beavers could not get anything going in the final two innings and fell 1-0 to Portland State.
Karmen Halladay threw a complete game shutout for the Vikings and allowed three while walking one and striking out three to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Beavers return home for a three-game set this Thursday through Saturday against the University of Washington Huskies. Thursday's start time is set for 3 p.m. at the OSU Softball Complex.
