SEATTLE - The second-ranked Oregon State baseball team split a doubleheader with Washington Saturday afternoon at Husky Ballpark, taking game one, 9-3, and losing game two, 7-6.
The first-game victory gave the Beavers the series victory over the Huskies, and OSU stands at 37-12 overall and 16-5 in Pacific-10 Conference play.
Washington, meanwhile, is now 14-33 overall and 5-16 in league play.
Game 1 Recap
Oregon State pelted four home runs - its more in seven seasons - en route to a 9-3 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Andrew Susac, Ryan Dunn, Jake Rodriguez and Kavin Keyes all went deep for the Beavers, who last hit four in a game on March 31, 2004 against Portland.
Susac and Dunn went back-to-back in the first to highlight the Beavers' four-run first. For Susac, it was his team-leading fifth of the season and put OSU up 3-0. Dunn then homered over the left-center field fence for his fourth of the season.
It was the second time this season OSU hit back-to-back home runs, the first time coming in the first inning on March 18 at Long Beach State when Susac and Danny Hayes accomplished the feat.
Washington answered back with three unearned runs to pull within one, 4-3, entering the sixth, but Rodriguez broke the game open with a three-run blast to left that put the Beavers up 7-3.
Keyes capped off Oregon State's scoring with his first home run of the season in the seventh, a two-run shot for the six-run advantage.
Sam Gaviglio started and worked 5 2/3 innings in the win. He allowed 10 hits and three runs - all unearned - and was the beneficiary of the Oregon State offensive outburst. He improved to 10-1 with the win, which ties for the Pac-10 league lead.
Jeff Brigham was downed for Washington, dropping to 3-1 this season. He allowed six hits and seven runs in six innings.
Scott Schultz finished the game with 3 1/3 innings for his first save of the season.
Keyes was the lone Beaver with two hits as OSU tied its run output with nine hits. He and Rodriguez tied for the team lead with three RBI apiece.
Jacob Lamb had four hits in the first game to pace Washington, which tallied 12 overall.
Game 2 Recap
Oregon State squandered a 6-0 lead and the Huskies won the game in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk by Troy Scott.
Washington loaded the bases after Tony Bryant intentionally walked Jacob Lamb with no out. But Scott was able to get the count to 3-2 before Bryant unleashed ball four for the Huskies' comeback victory.
The Beavers found themselves up 6-0 after three in which both Hayes and Susac drove in two apiece. But the Huskies scored two in the sixth off starter Ben Wetzler, then four more in the seventh to tie the game at six.
Adam Cimber worked the final three innings for Washington to improve to 3-4 this season. He allowed two hits and no runs with one walk.
Bryant, meanwhile, dropped to 3-2 this season. He allowed three hits and a run with three strikeouts and three walks in two innings.
Hayes hit his third home run of the season in the first, and Bell tallied three hits to pace the Beavers.
Wetzler went six full innings in the start, scattering nine hits and four runs with two strikeouts. His counterpart, Austin Voth, was touched for nine hits and six runs in six innings.
Oregon State returns to Corvallis next weekend for a series with USC. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. PT.
