Beavers Fall to No. 14 Huskies in Series Opener, 6-1

CORVALLIS - The Oregon State softball team fell to No. 14 Washington by a score of 6-1 Thursday afternoon in the first game of the three-game set at the OSU Softball complex.
Paige Hall started in the circle for the Beavers (18-27 overall, 1-18 Pacific-10 Conference) and threw three scoreless innings working out of trouble after the Huskies got at least one runner in scoring position in each of the first three innings to keep the game in a scoreless tie going to the top of the fourth.
Hall pitched four innings and gave up four runs, none earned, on six hits. She walked three and struck out six in the losing effort falling to 6-6 on the season.
The Huskies (32-13, 8-11) broke the tie with four unearned runs on four hits and two Oregon State errors to take a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth inning.

Washington added one run in the fifth and another in the sixth, both earned off of Oregon State reliever Marina Demore to stretch the lead to 6-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth.
Erin Guzy reached base to lead off the bottom of the sixth on an error by the shortstop after she dropped a fly ball in shallow center field. Guzy was then pinch run for by Isabelle Batayola who moved to second on a ground out to first. After a wild pitch moved Batayola to third, Lea Cavestany grounded out to first allowing Batayola to score getting the Beavers on the board.
After neither team could get anything going in the seventh, the Huskies won the game by a final score of 6-1.
Demore pitched the final three innings for the Beavers and gave up two earned runs on four hits. She struck out three and walked two.
Washington starter Kaitlin Inglelsby threw a complete game and allowed one unearned run on two Oregon State hits. She struck out three and did not allow a walk to improve to 21-8 on the season.
The two teams will be back on the field Friday at 3 p.m. for the second game of the three-game set. Saturday's game is slated for 12 p.m. and will be senior day.
