Beavers Win in Comeback Thriller Against No. 14 Washington, 4-3

CORVALLIS - Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Beavers scored twice to take a 4-3 lead at the end of six innings. Oregon State starting pitcher Tina Andreana closed out the game for her seventh complete game of the year as Oregon State defeated No. 14 Washington by a score of 4-3 Friday afternoon.
Audrey Roderfeld led off the bottom of the sixth inning with the Beavers trailing by one run and hit her third home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3. After Nikki Chandler and Ally Kutz hit back-to-back singles with one out in the inning Hannah Bouska flied out for the second out.
Erin Guzy walked to load the bases bringing up Paige Hall as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded and two outs. Hall worked a full count bases loaded walk on the eight pitch of her at bat to drive in the game-winning run to take the Beaver's first lead of the day and lead 4-3 through six complete innings.
Washington hit two consecutive infield singles to get two runners on with no outs in the top of the seventh inning. Jenn Salling then singled through the right side but the ball struck the back foot of the runner going to second causing runner interference.
Instead of two runners, a run score and no outs, there was one out in the inning with runners on first and second. Andreana then struck out the next batter or the second out. The next batter hit a ground ball off of Andreana's glove which was picked up by Bouska at second who then threw out the runner at first to end the game.
Washington got on the board with two runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead before Oregon State came to bat.
Oregon State got two runners on in the bottom of the first but could not find the hit it needed in the first. After Andreana shut down the Huskies in the top of the second Ashley Sanchez led off the bottom of the second with a single to left field. Sanchez finished the game going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.
After Chandler moved Sanchez to second on a sacrifice bunt Kutz drove in Sanchez from second on a double over the left fielder's head that went all the way to the wall. Kutz finished the game going 2-for-3 with a run batted in.
Washington got an unearned run in the top of the third inning but Oregon State came right back with a run of its own to close Washington's lead to 3-2 through three innings.
The Huskies got eight runners on base through the final four innings but only one reached second base.
Oregon State scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 4-3 lead and Andreana closed out the game for the win snapping a 14-game losing streak.
Andreana threw a complete game and allowed three runs, only two were earned, on eight hits. She gave up only two walks in the game while striking out seven Washington batters. She improved her record to 6-15 with the win.
Jenna Clifton was credited with the loss after walking Hall giving the Beavers the lead in the bottom of the sixth. She threw 2/3 of an inning and gave up the winning run while allowing two hits.
Oregon State out-hit Washington 9-to-8 in the game which was the first time the Beavers had out-hit their opponents in conference play this season. It was also only the second time this season the Beavers had won a game after trailing after five complete innings.
The Beavers and Huskies face off in the final game of the season on senior day. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
