Hall Homers But Beavers Fall to No. 1 Sun Devils in Series Finale

TEMPE, Ariz. - Paige Hall broke up a no-hit bid by No. 1 Arizona State in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run to deep center but the Beavers fell to the Sun Devils, 7-1, Sunday afternoon at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
Erin Guzy led off the game for the Beavers (18-22 overall, 1-14 Pacific-10 Conference) with an 11 pitch walk. It was the third straight game in which the Beavers have had the leadoff hitter reach base.
Arizona State got a run in the bottom of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. The Sun Devils scored on a RBI ground out to short for the second out in the first. Oregon State left fielder Mary Claire Brenner tracked down a deep fly ball to left center for the third out.
The Sun Devils added three runs on four singles in the bottom of the second and another run in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead through fourth complete innings.
With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Paige Hall broke up an Arizona State potential no-hitter with a solo home run to deep center field getting the Beavers on the board. Desiree Beltran then doubled down the left field line for the second hit of the day for the Beavers but they could not push another run across.
The Sun Devils increased its lead to 7-1 on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Tina Andreana started the game in the circle for the Beavers and threw two innings. She gave up four earned runs on five hits while walking two. She falls to 5-12 with the loss. Hall pitched in relief for the Beavers and went four innings giving up three runs, only one of which was earned, along with four walks and four strikeouts.
Arizona State starter Dallas Escobedo pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run on two hits. She improves to 23-3.
The Beavers return home next weekend when they play host to the California Golden Bears in a three-game set at the OSU Softball Complex. The first game of the series is Friday with the first pitch slated for 3 p.m. PT.
