Softball Drops Series Finale at No. 7 UCLA, 12-2

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team dropped the final game of the three-game set to open Pacific-10 Conference play Sunday by a final score of 12-2, in five innings, against No. 7 UCLA at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Beavers (16-11 overall, 0-3 Pac-10) went in order to start the game in the first before UCLA (26-5, 3-0) jumped on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Bruins added three in the second and another two in the third to take a 7-0 lead heading into the top of the fourth.
Oregon State first baseman Erin Guzy led off the top of the fourth with a single up the middle for the Beavers second hit of the game. The Beavers then loaded the bases with two outs but could not get a run across.
After the Beavers held the Bruins scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, and with a runner at first base and two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Guzy drilled a home run over the right field fence for her first home run of the season driving in the Beavers' only two runs of the game cutting the UCLA lead to 7-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
The Bruins added five runs in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded walk and a walk-off grand slam to win the game by a final score of 12-2 in five innings.
Guzy paced the Beavers on the day going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Ashley Sanchez added the only other hit for the Beavers with a single to center field in the top of the third. It was Guzy's seventh multiple-hit game of the season and her second multiple-RBI game of the season.
Oregon State starting pitcher Tina Andreana gave up six runs, only four were earned, on four hits but walked five while recording only one strike out in 2.1 innings pitched in the losing effort. He falls to 3-4 with the loss. UCLA starter Donna Kerr improved to 10-1 with the win.
Oregon State will be back in action Friday, April 8 at 3 p.m. when they host the Arizona Wildcats at the OSU Softball Complex for the first of a three-game set.
