Softball Falls to No. 19 Oregon in Second Game of Civil War Series

EUGENE - Erin Guzy went 3-for-4 with two doubles and the Beavers add three runs in the top of the seventh but fall to No. 19 Oregon by a score of 7-4 Friday night in front of 649 at Howe Field in Eugene.
Oregon (32-11 overall, 4-7 Pacific-10 Conference) scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning on four singles, three being flairs to left field, and two walks with the bases loaded to take a 4-0 lead through two full innings.
Oregon State starting pitcher Tina Andreana threw 1.1 innings allowing four earned runs on three hits. She walked two and struck out one before being relieved by Paige Hall with one out in the second inning. Andreana falls to 5-9 on the season with the loss.
Ashley Sanchez recorded the first hit of the game for the Beavers (18-18, 1-10) with a bunt single that died in between the Oregon catcher and pitcher. She then stole second before Lea Cavestany walked to put runners on first and second but were stranded in top of the third inning.
Oregon got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the third inning which was quickly erased by a double play started by Desiree Beltran at third base clearing the bases with two outs. The next batter popped out to Maggie Doremus at second to end the inning.
Erin Guzy led off the top of the fourth with a double down the right field line past the glove of the first baseman to move into scoring position with no outs. The next batter Hall hit a comebacker to the pitcher who threw out Guzy trying to advance to third. Guzy ended the game going 3-for-4 with a double giving her three doubles in the past two games.
Beltran walked moving Hall to second. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning Ally Kutz walked to load the bases. Emily Richardson, making her first start of the season at shortstop for the Beavers, drove in the only run of the game for the Beavers with a bases loaded single to left field making the score 4-1 in favor of Oregon.
Oregon added two runs in the fourth on a two-run home run to center field. They got another runner on first when a Oregon batter lined out to Cavestany in center who then doubled off the runner at first to end the inning with Oregon leading 6-1 through four innings.
Marina Demore came into the game to pitch for the Beavers starting the Oregon half of the fifth inning and gave up a solo home run to left field increasing the Oregon lead to 7-1.
Hall pitched 2.2 innings giving up two earned runs on four hits. She walked one and struck out one.
Richardson led off the top of the seventh and was moved to third on a single off the bat of Sanchez down the right field line. After a Cavestany strikeout, Mary Claire Brenner pinch hit for Doremus and drove in Richardson from third on a groundout to short. Sanchez advanced to second on the play. Guzy then hit her second double of the game scoring Sanchez from second.
The Beavers got a third run of the seventh inning on a throwing error by the Oregon catcher with the bases loaded but could not tie the game and fell to Oregon 7-4.
Sanchez ended the game 2-for-3 with a run scored. Richardson ended the game 1-for-2 with a run score, a run batted in and a walk.
Oregon starting pitcher Brittany Rumfelt allowed one earned run on four hits. She walked three and struck out five Oregon State batters in the winning effort. She improves her record to 5-0 on the season.
