Novice 8 Advances to Grand Final at Lake Natoma Invitational

GOLD RIVER, Calif. -
The Oregon State women's rowing team raced against several of the best crews in the nation Saturday at the Lake Natoma Invitational. OSU's Novice 8 was the Beavers' lone winner on the first day of the regatta.
In a four team race, Oregon State's novices outraced the crew from Wisconsin to the finish edging the Badgers out by nearly two seconds. The Beavers beat California's 'B' crew and Sacramento State in open water.
In early morning racing the Beavers' Varsity 4+ rowed a strong piece falling to crews from Cal and Notre Dame. The Beavers finished just over three seconds behind the Bears and only a half-second behind the Irish.
The Second Varsity 8 fell to the Irish for second place by one second in another tight race and the Varsity 8 also finished third behind No. 4 California and Notre Dame.
In afternoon racing, OSU raced against No. 6 Brown and No. 9 Wisconsin finishing third in all three late races. The V4+ finished 2.5 seconds behind Brown for second place while the 2V8 and V8 crews also earned third place finishes.
The invitational continues Sunday with finals. All three varsity boats will race against Sacramento State and Central Florida in the C finals. The V4+ race is at 8 a.m., 2V8 at 8:30 a.m. and V8 rounding out the day at 9:20 a.m. The N8 will take on California, Wisconsin and Stanford at 9:10 in the grand final.
