
Women's Hoops Drops Pac-10 Tournament First Round Heartbreaker to Arizona State

Los Angeles, Calif. – Freshman Alyssa Martin (Portland, Ore.) and redshirt sophomore Sage Indendi (Livingston, Mont.) combined for nearly half of the Oregon State women's basketball points, but the Beavers dropped a 50-44 heartbreaker to Arizona State in the first round of the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament on Wednesday afternoon in the Galen Center to end the 2010-11 season.
Martin and Indendi both had 10 points, while junior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) and senior El Sara Greer (Waterloo, Iowa) each added nine. Marchbanks pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Greer tallied all four blocked shots for the Beavers to conclude the season with 92, 114 career.
Arizona State (20-9) scored first but Oregon State (9-21) came back with an 8-2 run to earn its first lead of the game at 11-9 with all five starters counting at least one field goal halfway through the first half.
Greer led all scorers with seven points, adding three more blocks to her school record season, with Oregon State scoring just one less field goal than the Sun Devils at the half. The main difference in the 27-20 halftime score was Arizona State was 3 of 11 from three-point range, where the Beavers were held without one in the first 20 minutes.
Coming out of the break, the Sun Devils went on an 8-0 run to build their lead to 15 at 35-20. But Oregon State quickly answered back in the form of its own 10-0 run behind three-pointers by Marchbanks and Indendi to make it a five-point margin at 35-30.
The Beavers pulled within three a couple of times down the stretch but despite open looks, they were unable to pull any closer, with Arizona State converting on a three-point play and a late layup to seal the game.
Arizona State's Dymond Simon led all scorers with 13 points, while Kimberly Brandon had seven rebounds.
Oregon State shot 40.9 percent (18-44) from the field, besting Arizona State's 35.8 percent (19-53).
Postgame, Greer was named to the 2011 Pac-10 Media All-Pac-10 Team, while Martin was named to the media's All-Freshman Team.
