Softball Sweeps Weber State for Fifth Straight Win

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior Paige Hall went 3-for-4 with a home run and a win as the Beavers (12-8 overall) won their fifth straight with a sweep of Weber State (3-15) Sunday at the OSU Softball Complex.
Hall hit her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning in game one against Weber State to propel the Beavers to the 8-0 (six innings) in the first game of the doubleheader. Then in the second game she pitched a complete game shutout allowing only five hits to improve to 2-2 on the season. She ended the day with three hits, the home run and five RBI.
Erin Guzy and Mary Claire Brenner both went 3-for-6 with two runs scored on the day while Guzy drove in one run and Brenner drove in three runs. On the weekend, Brenner was 7-for-11 (.636) with three runs scored and 10 RBIs.

The Beavers got on the board in a big way in the bottom of the first inning by scoring four runs to take the early 4-0 lead. Maggie Doremus continued her hot hitting with a single up the middle with one out. Doremus moved to second on a single by Guzy. Doremus then scored on a single by Brenner. Designated player Hall came to the plate with two runners on and pulled her fourth home run of the season down the left field line just over the foul pole making the Beavers' lead 4-0.
After two scoreless innings the Beavers added a run in the fourth inning when centerfielder Lea Cavestany singled to left center scoring Ally Kutz. They added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Kutz hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Guzy and giving them a 6-0 lead going into the sixth inning.
After the Wildcats went in order in the top of the sixth, the Beavers added two more runs to end the game in the sixth with a score of 8-0. Guzy singled in Ashley Sanchez for the seventh run of the game and Brenner hit a walk-off single down the left field line scoring Richardson to end the game.
Guzy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, Brenner went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in while Hall went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. The three combined for seven of the team's 11 hits and six of the eight RBIs in the game for the Beavers.
Sophomore Tina Andreana went the distance inside the circle for the Beavers throwing six complete innings, surrendering only two hits and no earned runs while striking out eight batters. She improved her record on the season to 3-2. Weber State starter Angela DeVries fell to 2-2 with the loss.

Oregon State struck early again in the first inning with two runs to take the early 2-0 advantage. Doremus reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second when Brenner singled down the left field line. They both moved up bases on a wild pitch but then Doremus scored when the Wildcat catcher tied to throw her out at third and the ball went into left field. Brenner then scored from second when Hall singled to right field to take the early 2-0 advantage.
After two scoreless innings the Beavers added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Hall walked to lead off the inning and was immediately moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Desiree Beltran. Kutz then drove in Hall from second with an RBI single giving the Beavers a 3-0 lead.
Oregon State added two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Brenner and Hall hit back-to-back RBI sacrifice flies scoring Cavestany and Doremus giving the Beavers their final 5-0 advantage.
Hall faced every Weber State batter in the game allowing only five hits and one walk while striking out five batters. She improved to 2-2 on the season while Weber State starter Kelsie Vallies fell to 0-7.
