Pullman, Wash. – Four Oregon State women's basketball players reached double-digits in the points column ignited by redshirt sophomore Sage Indendi's (Livingston, Mont.) career-best 22 points, but Washington State escaped with a 67-64 heartbreaking win on Thursday evening in Beasley Coliseum.
Junior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) added 15, while freshman Alyssa Martin (Portland, Ore.) had 13, and senior El Sara Greer (Waterloo, Iowa) had a near double-double with 10 points and game-high nine rebounds.
After winning the tip, Martin opened the game for the Beavers (7-14, 0-10) with a three-pointer followed by a three-point play by Greer. Indendi added a three-point play of her own in the form of a long range shot to give Oregon State the early 9-2 advantage in less than three minutes of play.
Martin added another bucket beyond the arc to spark a 5-0 run heading into the first media timeout, giving the Beavers the 14-4 edge.
Washington State (6-16, 4-6) strung together a short run of its own to make it a 14-9 game with under 12 minutes to play, but sent Greer to the line when play resumed to shoot a pair. Greer knocked down one to end the short scoring drought by the Beavers and leading another run with an Indendi three-pointer and sophomore Angela Misa (Oceanside, Calif.) layup to make it a 20-9 game.
The Cougars threatened again, scoring six straight to cut Oregon State's lead to five at 20-15. But the Beavers quickly built its lead back up to tie the largest lead at 25-15.
Washington State cut the Beavers' lead to single digits, but Oregon State held on to a 30-22 lead heading into the locker room at halftime, led by Indendi's nine points – all coming from beyond the arc.
The Cougars' April Cook heated up with a pair of three-pointers, but the Beavers quickly defused the situation with a pair of long buckets by Indendi and Marchbanks. Marchbanks made it a 12-point game on a put back basket at 42-30, prompting a Washington State called timeout.
A pair of technical foul free throws made by Indendi with a layup by Martin gave Oregon State its biggest lead of the game at 48-35 with over 12 minutes to play in the contest.
Washington State matched the Beavers' 48 points with 9:52 left in the game before a Martin three kept the Cougars still without their first lead of the game, holding them off at 51-48. But Washington State continued to hit big jumpers to take the lead and have a five-point lead, 59-54, at the final media timeout with 3:20 left in the game.
Free throws by freshman Alexis Bostick (Oakland, Calif.) and a baseline three-pointer by Indendi tied the game back up at 59 all in the final minutes.
The Cougars hit a pair of free throws to regain the lead with 1:16 remaining before another Cook three made it a two possession game at 64-59 with 33.1 left on the clock.
Greer hit a pair of clutch free throws to make it 64-61, but with time running out the Beavers were forced to foul with 20.4 seconds remaining with the Cougars' Ireti Amojo hitting both. Indendi hit her sixth three-pointer of the game to make it 66-64, but a final three throw by the Cougars, followed by a missed three gave Washington State the win.
Washington State's Amojo and Sage Romberg both led the team with 17 points, while Romberg added a team-high eight rebounds.
The Beavers outshot the Cougars 38.5 percent (20-52) to 37.7 percent (23-61) with a season-high tying 55 percent (11-20) shooting from beyond the arc.
