
Five Beavers Score in Double-Figures in 85-62 Win over Runners

Bakersfield, Calif. – Five Beavers scored in double-figures, led by juniors Patricia Bright (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Thais Pinto (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) with 16 each, as the Oregon State women's basketball team (8-1) defeated the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (3-9), 85-62, on Tuesday evening in Icardo Center.
Sophomore Alyssa Martin (Portland, Ore.) added 15 points, while freshman Ali Gibson (Woodbridge, Calif.) earned her sixth double-figure game with 11. Junior Sage Indendi (Livingston, Mont.) rounded out the top scorers with 10 points.
The Beavers shot 63.3 percent on 19-of-30 shooting in the first half led by Martin's nine points with seven of the nine players on the floor in the half knocked down at least one bucket.
Using its size advantage, Oregon State pulled down 21 rebounds to CSU Bakersfield's 10 and scored 30 of its 42 first half points in the paint. Pinto and Bright both had eight points each.
Oregon State led by as many as 16 in the first half at the 28-12 mark, holding the Roadrunners to runs of five points or less. CSU Bakersfield battled back to within five at 34-29, but in the final two minutes, the Beavers doubled the Runners' points, 8-4, to take the 42-33 halftime lead into the locker room.
After committing 11 turnovers in the first half, the Beavers regained their composure, only giving up the ball twice, and scoring 30 more points in the paint and capitalizing on the Roadrunners' eight turnovers in the half for 18 points.
Senior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) pulled down nine of her game-high 11 rebounds in the second half to lead the defensive efforts with Gibson counting three of her five steals in the game. Marchbanks and Gibson both tallied a game-high seven assists, while sophomore Alexis Bostick (Oakland, Calif.) adding six.
Oregon State shot a near season-high tying 53.7 percent on 36-of-67 shooting, connecting on 6-of-19 attempts from beyond the arc. The Beavers outrebounded the Roadrunners, 47-28, while picking up 30 assists and nine steals to six.
CSU Bakersfield's Ciarra Ford was the team's leading scorer with 14 points.
Oregon State returns home to host Corban University on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Fans that bring three cans of food to the game will receive $2 admission and a coupon for chips and queso as part of Qdoba's “Cans for Queso” food drive.
Oregon State Notes: Junior Sage Indendi is now tied for eighth all-time for career three-pointers with two in the game, 84 career … Junior Thais Pinto scored a career-high 16 points … Oregon State finished its non-conference road schedule undefeated for the first time since 2008-09 … The last time Oregon State had five players in double figures was against Western Oregon on November 11 … Oregon State hasn't scored 80-plus points since against Southern Utah on November 20.
