Corvallis, Ore. – Ten different Oregon State women's basketball players scored in the 79-47 rout of Corban University on Friday evening in Gill Coliseum in front of a crowd of 914.
The Beavers (9-1) continued its winning streak, extending it to four, just one shy of the season-high five that opened the season.
Senior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) led all scorers with 17 points, while junior Thais Pinto (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) nearly tallied a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
“I thought Earlysia came out really fired up,” head coach Scott Rueck said. “She was a real spark to us tonight. Coming into this game I thought we lacked a little bit of energy early compared to what we needed to play with and win on the road. I don't think she did, though, and her energy was big for us. The team jumped on her back once she got a couple of those offensive rebound put backs.”
Sophomore Jenna Dixon (Portland, Ore.) scored a career-high 10 points coming off the bench, leading the 39 total bench points for the Beavers.
Marchbanks scored the first eight points for the Beavers of her 14 total first half points. Nine different Oregon State players combined for the team's 40 first half points, shooting 46.3 percent on 19-of-41 shooting. The Beavers easily outrebounded the Warriors, led by junior ShaKiana Edwards-Teasley's (Lapwai, Idaho) seven, collecting 30 total rebounds (13-17) to Corban's 15 (5-10).
The Warriors outscored the Beavers, 7-4, to open the second half heading into the first media break, but it wouldn't last long as Oregon State outscored Corban, 39-34.
Junior Sage Indendi (Livingston, Mont.) and sophomore Alexis Bostick (Oakland, Calif.) both earned seven assists each of the team's 25 total with Bostick adding a game-high three steals. Junior Patricia Bright (Phoenix, Ariz.) chalked up four blocked shots to add to her eight points and five rebounds.
Oregon State pulled down a final 49 rebounds to Corban's 33, counting 13 steals to seven and committing eight fewer turnovers than the Warriors. The Beavers scored 50 points in the paint, 31 points off of turnovers and 19 points in both the second chance category and fast break.
“Our advantages were in the posts with our size,” Rueck said. “We have guards that attack, and we wanted to get the ball to the basket and make them stop that before we go out. I thought in the first half Earlysia [Marchbanks] did a nice job finding gaps on the zone. Alyssa [Martin] did the same thing. When that was not there, we did a nice job finding our post.”
Corban's Tess Bennett earned a double-double with a team-high 14 points and game-high 10 rebounds.
Oregon State closes out non-conference play against Saint Mary's on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Gill Coliseum.
Oregon State Notes: Oregon State's nine wins ties the total number of victories in 2010-11 … Oregon State remains undefeated at home this season, earning its fifth win in Gill Coliseum.
