Women's Hoops Overcomes First Half Deficit to Wipe Out Waves

Malibu, Calif. - The Oregon State women's basketball team (7-1) came back from being down by as many as 13 in the first half to win 63-52 over Pepperdine (5-4) on Saturday evening in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Junior Patricia Bright (Phoenix, Ariz.) had a near triple-double to lead the Beavers with 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine blocked shots to lead Oregon State with senior Earlysia Marchbanks (Salem, Ore.) counting a game-high 18 points.
The Beavers forced early foul trouble for the Waves with Bright drawing a pair of early fouls from Pepperdine's starting center Jade McNorton in the first 2:30 of the game. Bright converted on all four attempts at the line to give Oregon State its biggest lead of the game at 7-4 after an Indendi three.
But the Waves wouldn't let that stand for too long, stringing together short runs to build their lead to as many as 13 at the 24-11 mark.
Bright started the Beaver comeback with her fifth and sixth made free throws of the game to lead the team to a 14-4 run to close out the half. During the run, Marchbanks completed a pair of three-point plays to mark a perfect first half outing at the line for Oregon State, while the team improved to 42.9 percent from the field and outrebounded Pepperdine 19-14.
The Beavers continued their run into the second half, opening up 5-0 behind a Martin bucket and last second Marchbanks three-pointer, giving Oregon State the 32-28 edge.
Pepperdine managed to match both of the Oregon State three-point shots in the first half of the final 20 minutes, but the Beavers wouldn't relinquish their lead, holding at least a one-point advantage through the rest of the second half.
Back-to-back buckets by Indendi and another last second three-pointer from Marchbanks gave Oregon State its largest lead of the game at 55-47 with just under two minutes to play and forcing Pepperdine to start to foul to stop the clock.
Oregon State hit 8-of-11 down the final stretch from the charity stripe to seal the win despite Jazmine Jackson's pair of made free throws and a three pointer.
Pepperdine's Lauren Bell earned a team-high 17 points with Tessa Emerson pulling down eight rebounds.
The Beavers shot 47.7 percent (21-44) to Pepperdine's 24.6 percent (17-69), while earning 42 rebounds to the Waves' 37. Oregon State outassisted Pepperdine 11-7 and outblocked the Waves 12-1.
Oregon State scored 32 of its points in the paint and 17 off of turnovers to lead both categories over Pepperdine.
Oregon State ends its Southern California swing at CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
