Tucson, Ariz. – Senior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai'i) and junior Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) both reached double-digits with 10 kills each, but the Oregon State volleyball team (14-11, 6-9 Pac-12) fell in three (25-20, 25-16, 25-17) to Arizona (15-10, 7-8 Pac-12) on Friday evening.
“The main thing is that we never got a good rhythm going on our side to play sideout volleyball,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We gave up too many points in stretches of time, giving them runs of three to five points, which really killed us in the first two sets. Skill-wise our passing, blocking and defense were off. Arizona did a very good job hitting today.
In a match like this we need more than two or three people playing at the peak of their game to be effective. I think there was a lot on the line this match, and a few people were tight. But we have to learn from this and get over it. We're not out of it yet, but we just have to keep pushing in every match we play. Also, very good hitting tonight by Arica [Nassar], Camille [Saxton] and Ashley [Eneliko].”
Freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) added seven kills, while junior Ashley Eneliko (Seattle, Wash.) tallied five.
Defensively, sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) had 13 digs to lead all backcourt defense, while three Beavers registered a block each.
Arizona's Madison Kingdon killed a match-high 15 balls, while Candace Nicholson had 10 digs.
