OREGON STATE:
2004-2005: Derek enters his senior season looking to stay injury free...a physical player in the paint who can help the team on both ends of the court...solid offensive skills around the basket...arguably the team's best inside defensive player.
2003-2004: Derek missed the final nine games of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot...started five games for the season, including the three immediately previous to suffering his injury...grabbed a career-high eight rebounds vs. Washington and seven vs. Sacramento State...made his first career start Dec. 22 vs. Sacramento State...also started games vs. Jackson State, at Arizona State, and vs. Stanford and California...blocked a career-high three shots at UCLA.
2002-2003: Derek played 23 games as a backup center...averaged 7.1 minutes, 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds...scored a career-high 11 points in the team's victory at the University of Portland...shot .480 (12-25) for the season.
2001-2002: Potter missed a majority of preseason practice with a stress reaction injury in his left leg...he played in the season opener, but the injury again sidelined him for nearly a month...played in 23 of the team's 29 games...played in double figures for minutes four times, including a career-high 16 vs. Stanford...had a career-high four rebounds vs. Arizona State and California.
2000-2001: Potter redshirted, after suffering a broken toe in preseason...returned to full practice near the end of the year.
HANDSWORTH SECONDARY: Derek struggled as a senior due to injuries and illness...he still managed to average 28 points and 16.1 rebounds...helped the team to the provincial playoffs...he played over 80 games with an under-19 AAU team in the summer of 1999...he averaged 25.5 points and 14.2 rebounds as a junior...first-team All-Northern Vancouver League as a junior and senior...named to the All-Canadian Team as a senior...team captain as a junior and senior.
PERSONAL: Born in Campbell River, British Columbia...son of Steve and Fay Potter...has two sisters...majoring in business.
