CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's golf team completed its first round with a 25-over 313 at the highly-competitive Pac-12/SEC Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday.
The Beavers got a 4-over 76 from senior Whitney French, a 5-over 77 from freshman Anica Yoo and a 6-over 78 from sophomore Lauren Sewell at the par-72, 6,447-yard Holston Hills Country Club and sit in 22nd place at the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
The 23-team field includes all 12 teams from the SEC and every team from the Pac-12 except for Utah with 21 of the teams ranked in the Top 50 in the nation by golfstat.com.
Junior Chelsey Lind posted a 10-over 82 in her first tournament of the year for Oregon State, while sophomore Seshia Telles had an uncharacteristic 11-over 83.
Only two teams - UCLA and Alabama - posted under-par rounds with the No. 1-ranked Bruins leading the tournament with a 7-under 281 and the sixth-ranked Crimson Tide sitting three strokes back with a 4-under 284. Tennessee (3-over 291), Washington (7-over 295) and Colorado (7-over 295) round out the top-5 after the first day of competition.
The Pac-12 leads the SEC in conference competition with an average score of 299.1 to 301.5.
The second round will begin with tee times at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and there will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. in the final round on Sunday. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
