CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's golf team improved its second round by 13 strokes and moved up three spots at the three-day, 54-hole Pac-12/SEC Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday.
The Beavers shot a 12-over 300 after opening with a 25-over 313 in Friday's opening round at the par-72, 6,447-yard Holston Hills Country Club to move from 22nd place to 19th heading into Sunday's final round with a 37-over 613.
"Today's round was much more focused and we executed our course strategy much better," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "Our score reflected those two things. Tomorrow will be another difficult test and I feel we are prepared for it."
Senior Whitney French led the Beavers for the second straight day with a 1-over 73 and sits in a tie for 37th place with a 5-over 76-73--149, while freshman Anica Yoo continued her consistent play with a 2-over 74 on Saturday and is tied for 52nd with a 7-over 77-74--151.
Sophomore Seshia Telles bounced back after a tough opening round with a 4-over 76 on Saturday, while fellow sophomore Lauren Sewell shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 82nd with a 78-77--155. Junior Chelsey Lind, who is making her first start of the year for the Beavers, is in 115th place with a 23-over 82-85--167.
"I was particularly proud of Seshia who played her game today and hung in there on a very long golf course," Alexander said. "We also finished very well over the last three to four holes, which is something we have been working on for the last few weeks. So, all in all, it was a successful day. We just need to go out and play our game tomorrow."
