
Volleyball Falls in Close Four-Set Match to No. 19 Michigan

Corvallis, Ore. – Sophomore Megan McBride (Auburn, Wash.) had her second double-double of the day with 13 kills and 37 assists, but the Oregon State volleyball team (3-4) fell in four to No. 19 Michigan (5-1) on Saturday evening in set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 33-35, 24-26 in the final match of the Active Ankle Challenge.
“We had a good game plan, and we fought very hard,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “When you lose how closely we did, it shows you're in the match all the way. We ran out of steam in the end, but I like the way we fought. I like how Megan [McBride] led this whole weekend. We've got to keep working hard.”
McBride added four aces and was four digs away from her second career triple-double. Senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) also had a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Both Sawatzky and McBride were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Defensively, freshman Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) held down the backcourt with a match-high 16 digs, while sophomore Ashley Eneliko (Seattle, Wash.) had a career-best tying seven blocks at the net with one solo block.
The Beavers and Wolverines battled through three close sets, pushing them all to extra points but unable to close out the set in Oregon State's favor. Oregon State served tough with 11 aces to Michigan's nine and outhit the Wolverines 59 kills to 52.
Michigan's Alex Hunt paced all hitters with 22 kills, while libero Sloane Donhoff dug a team-high 15 balls.
Oregon State heads to Charleston, S.C. for the Holiday Inn Classic, hosted by College of Charleston. The Beavers will take on Auburn on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PT.
