LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior first baseman Alana Mendoza roped a seventh inning RBI double to center field to propel the No. 16 ranked Oregon State softball team to a 2-1 victory against UNLV in late Saturday night's UNLV Desert Classic softball action.
The Beavers (4-2) rallied back from a 1-0 deficit and knotted the score in the top of the sixth when freshman shortstop Stephanie Wagoner drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on a throwing error on Adrienne Alo's sacrifice bunt.
Senior Kelly Petersen led-off the seventh inning with a double to right-center field and came around to score what proved to be the game-winner when Mendoza hit her one-out shot.
Sophomore pitcher Brianne McGowan improved her record to a perfect 3-0 on the season after striking out six batters in the complete game victory.
Mia Longfellow also had a hit for the Beavers.
UNLV (5-2) got on the board in the first inning. Marissa Nichols led off with a double to right field and McGowan was then called for an illegal pitch which moved Nichols to third. Two batters later, a wild pitch was thrown that allowed Nichols to score.
Oregon State wraps up action this afternoon against No. 18 ranked Nebraska.
