No. 23 Softball Splits A Pair Of Games At Clovis Auto Row Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 23 ranked Oregon State split a pair of games on Saturday at the Clovis Auto Row Softball Classic hosted by Fresno State University. The Beavers shutout Long Beach State, 5-0, before dropping a 6-0 contest to No. 15 Fresno State.
In the opener, OSU (23-8) used a four-run fourth inning to pull away from Long Beach State (18-7) and earn their second victory on the season against the 49ers.
Sophomore first baseman Vanessa Iapala led off the fourth inning with a single and eventually scored after an RBI single to center field by catcher Lisa Allen. Adrienne Alo and freshman Sherina Galvan also picked up hits in the frame and a LBSU error helped the Beavers get more runs across the plate.
OSU added an insurance run in the fifth when Galvan plated Kelly Petersen with a single to right-center field.
Both Iapala and Galvan went 2-for-3 in the game and Petersen picked up a single to extend her hitting steak to 12 straight outings.
Freshman hurler Ta'Tyana McElroy improved her record to 7-1 on the season after striking out two batters in five innings of relief.
No. 15 Fresno State (19-7) used a strong pitching performance from ace Jamie Southern (13-2) and solid hitting to top the Beavers in the nightcap.
OSU managed just three hits in the contest - singles from Mia Longfellow, Brianne McGowan and Allen. FSU pounded 10 hits in the game and used a 3-run home run by Christine Clark to take the early lead in the third inning.
McGowan dropped to 4-2 on the season after throwing three innings before being relieved by McElroy.
Oregon State wraps up tournament action on Sunday against top-ranked and undefeated UCLA. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
