SEATTLE - Lindsay Nelson won the all-around for the second meet in a row as the No. 9 Oregon State gymnastics team posted a 196.475 to place second behind No. 12 Washington, who finished with a 197.050. OSU did beat Boise State (194.575) and Sacramento State (191.775).
Nelson finished with a 39.475 in the all-around, with teammate Tanya Ricioli finishing second with a 39.375. Nelson, Ricioli and Elizabeth Jillson all finished second with scores of 9.925 on three different individual events. Nelson matched her career-high of 9.925 on vault, and Ricioli's 9.925 on beam also matched her personal best on that event. Jillson rounded out the second-place performances with a 9.925 of her own on bars. Elaine Yoder's 9.90 on beam earned her a third-place finish.
"I'm pleased with the way they keep fighting on the road. Was this our best meet ever? No, but they didn't let the little things get them," said coach Tanya Chaplin, whose team was on the road for the first time since January 31.
Th?r?se Videan kicked the meet off with a career-high 9.825 on bars in OSU's first routine of the night, and the Beavers built on her performance. Meghan Jones and Chrissy Lamun followed with a pair of 9.85s, and Nelson and Ricioli turned in 9.875 routines. Jillson closed out the rotation with a 9.925, her fourth score of 9.90 or better this month.
With a 49.375 on bars, OSU claimed the early lead over the Huskies after one rotation. Led by Kelly McDonald's first-place 9.975, Washington turned in a 49.350 on vault. Boise State had a 48.500 on beam, and Sacramento State started off with a 47.825 on floor.
With the aid of three scores of 9.90 or better on bars (highlighted by McDonald's second 9.95 win of the night), the Huskies took the lead after two rotations as UW put together a season-high 49.475 on the event. OSU had two 9.90-plus scores of their own on beam, but the Beavers finished with a 48.800. Tanya Ricioli matched her career-high with a 9.925, and Yoder added a 9.90. Lindsay Nelson scored a 9.825, but the other three Beavers had either a fall or several major balance checks to force them to count a 9.675 and a 9.475.
OSU rebounded with a 49.175 on floor, highlighted by Lamun's 9.875 and Nelson's 9.85. OSU also counted 9.825s from Heather Justus and Morales and a 9.80 from Ricioli. The Beavers also made up some ground in the team totals, as Washington had to count a fall on beam for a 48.675 to narrow the gap, 147.500-147.350. BSU had a 145.600 and Sacramento State had a 143.950 with one event remaining.
Nelson led the Beavers on vault with a career-high 9.925 for the second meet in a row. Justus posted a 9.85, and Daylee Ingalls had a 9.80. OSU other three vaulters - Morales, Ricioli and Videan - all scored 9.775s to give the Beavers a 49.125 on the event. Videan was a last minute substitution for Jones, who sprained her ankle during the three-minute touch.
"Th?r?se did a great job coming in at the last minute. She did one of the best vaults she's done in awhile and really stepped it up," Chaplin said.
Carly Dockendorf scored a perfect 10 on floor to win floor on Washington's last routine of the night, and Stacy Wong took top honors on beam with a 9.95 for the Huskies.
