HONOLULU - The No. 12 Oregon State softball team opened play at the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with a 3-1 loss to Tokyo Women's College of Physical Education on Thursday.
Tokyo took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning and added two more on back-to-back home runs from Mayumi Hirashita and Shiho Mitsuki in the third.
The Beavers managed just three hits on the day and did not score until Jenni Jodoin hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh. Tarrah Beyster and Steph Adams both singled for OSU's only other hits.
Beyster pitched the complete game for OSU, allowing eight hits with four stikeouts. Yukie Kamiya earned the win for Tokyo after giving up three hits with no walks or strikeouts.
While the loss does give the Beavers an 0-1 record at the tournament, the game is considered an exhibition game by the NCAA and will not count on OSU's record or stats.
Oregon State continues competition at the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with an 11 a.m. PST game against Nicholls State on Friday. The Beavers also will play Nittaidai at 3 p.m. PST on Friday in another exhibition game that will count only in the tournament standings.
