FULLERTON, Calif. - - Crystal Draper gave up only four hits as No. 12 Oregon State shut out No. 22 Hawaii in front of a crowd of 1,840 to advance in the KIA Klassic softball tournament on Friday night. OSU will play third-ranked Arizona State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Beavers (21-5-1) took an early 1-0 lead when junior first baseman Jenni Jodoin singled in Brooke Rutschman in the first inning. Neither team could get any offense going again until the fourth inning, when freshman Steph Adams singled to center for OSU to lead off the inning. Draper then came to the plate and blasted a two-run homerun to make it 3-0. The homerun was Draper's first of the year.
The Beavers have now totaled 22 homeruns on the season, just five shy of the record 27 homeruns which OSU set last year.
The win kept Draper's record untarnished so far this year at 9-0. It was also her eighth complete game of the season, and her second shutout of the tournament.
Freshman second baseman Brynnen Guthrie went 2-for-3 for the Beavers to round out their offense.
Oregon State advanced to the championship bracket with the win, while Hawaii dropped into consolation bracket play.
