Beavers Hold On For 64-56 Win

- Josh Steinthal scored 18 points as Oregon State used a late run to defeat Washington State 64-56 on Saturday.Jason Heide added 14 points and Deaundra Tanner eight assists for the Beavers (12-12, 4-9 Pac-10).
Mike Bush scored 26 points and had six rebounds for Washington State (5-17, 0-13), while Chris Crosby had 15 points and six rebounds before fouling out.
The Beavers led 23-16 at halftime and built a 12-point lead midway through the second half by moving the ball effectively into the post and passing back out to the perimeter for 3-pointers. Oregon State finished 5-16 from beyond the arc, as Steinthal connected on four attempts.
The Cougars chipped away at the lead and Bush put them within three points by converting a steal into two points with 6:55 left in the game.
On Oregon State's next possession, though, Tanner was fouled as he scored a layup, and after he hit the free throw the Beavers mounted a 12-3 run to go up 57-46 with 1:18 left in the game.
Washington State held Oregon State to 40 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers, but the Cougars only shot 36 percent from the field and grabbed 31 rebounds to the Beavers 40.
