TEMPE, Ariz. - - Cara Maxey and Shawna Feldt each blasted home-runs for No.11 Oregon State on Friday afternoon to lead the Beavers to an 11-3 win over Utah in the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Tempe.
The Beavers (2-1-1) scored nine runs in the first two innings, while pitcher Tarrah Beyster scattered eight hits over five innings. The Beavers totaled 10 hits on the afternoon, with four of them going for extra bases. Utah managed three runs over the last three innings, but couldn't get enough offense going to make it close.
"It was a great win," said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. "We kept the pressure on them pretty well throughout the game. Tarrah pitched really well."
Maxey, a freshman, belted a grand-slam and tallied four RBIs on the day, while Feldt went 2-4 with a double in addition to her homerun that came on the first pitch of the game. Jenni Jodoin had two RBIs for the Beavers as well.
Friday's win improved OSU's all-time series record against Utah to 4-5, and gives the Beavers a two-game winning streak heading into their 12:30 p.m. showdown against Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon. Saturday will be the first time the two teams have faced each other.
