Volleyball Defeats Missouri, Falls to Northern Iowa

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Sarah Bjeldanes registered 45 kills in two matches to give the Oregon State volleyball team a split in day two of the OSU Volleyball Showcase on Saturday. The Beavers lost to tournament champion Northern Iowa in five games (15-8, 11-15, 15-6, 10-15, 15-6) in the afternoon before coming back to defeat Missouri, 3-1 (13-15, 15-3, 15-11, 15-4), in the evening.
Oregon State finished second in the five-team tournament, losing only the Panthers.
Bjeldanes was one of two Beavers named to the All-Tournament Team. In Saturday's action, she posted a career-high 24 kills against UNI and followed that up with 21 against Missouri. She also had 10 digs, five blocks and an ace Saturday.
Brandi Bonnarens also received All-Tournament Team honors after dishing out 108 assists to go along with six blocks, 14 digs and three kills on Saturday.
Angie Shirley had a strong Saturday outing for OSU as well, hitting .333 with 25 kills and eight blocks for the day. Sanna Jensen extended her streak of double-digit digs to four matches, picking up 12 against UNI and a career-high 14 against Missouri.
UNI's Shannon Perry was named tournament MVP, and teammates Kim McCaffrey, Holly VanHofwegen and Alex Auker were honored on the All-Tournament Team. Missouri's Naaron Branson was the other player to receive All-Tournament honors.
OSU (3-1) travels to Fairbanks, Alaska, for the Nanook Classic on Sept. 10-12. The Beavers open the tournament against Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 10.
