PULLMAN, Wash. - The Oregon State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 contest at Washington State on Saturday. Game scores were 15-9, 15-8, 15-13.
The Beavers (8-11, 2-9) dropped their fourth straight match, the team's longest losing streak of the season. Washington State (11-8, 5-6) picked up its fourth win in a row to tie its longest winning streak this year.
OSU redshirt freshman Megan Mosness made her first career start after starting setter Brandi Bonnarens, went down with a knee injury in Friday's match at Washington.
"Megan set well enough for us to win the match. I'm very proud of her," coach Nancy Somera said. "I'm disappointed in the undisciplined play of some upperclassmen. At this point, we're going to move forward with players who prove to me they have the heart and desire to win."
Mosness finished with 21 assists, two kills, four digs and a block assist.
OSU's offense hit just .063 with 28 kills - both season-lows by far. It was the first match of the year that no Beavers had double-figure kills. Angie Shirley hit .300 with a team-high nine kills, but no other OSU players had more than four kills on the night.
The OSU blockers did show some improvement after struggling in the last four matches. The Beavers outblocked the Cougars, 11-6, highlighted by eight block assists from Michele Solomon.
Sanna Jensen also turned in a strong defensive effort, picking up a team-high eight digs in two games played. But as a team, OSU registered just 36 digs - its third lowest mark of the year.
Chelsie Schafer led the Cougars with 11 kills, a .375 hitting percentage and three aces, while Joy Sperry had a match-high 13 digs to go along with seven kills.
Oregon State returns to action Friday, October 29 when the Beavers host California at 7:30 p.m.
