Ben Chretien joined the Oregon State track & field program as an assistant coach, head coach Louie Quintana announced on August 22, 2024.
“We did an extensive search for our open throws position and had some fantastic coaches express interest in Oregon State, but I was real excited and impressed with Ben’s enthusiasm, competitive background and vast coaching knowledge and experience,” Quintana said. “His energy, focus and skill set are a great match for us at Oregon State and we are really looking forward to having him continue the upward trajectory of our throws program.”
"I am genuinely excited to work with this particular group of throwers,” Chretien said. “I feel there are a lot of things in place at Oregon State for current and future student-athletes to be successful and make their mark on NCAA athletics. I want to thank Coach Louie for giving me this opportunity and look forward to working with him, his staff, and all the support staff associated with the Track & Field team. Go Beavs!”
Chretien, a 2012 Olympic Trial Qualifier and NCAA All-American, was most recently at McNeese State University where he oversaw the men's and women's throwing events as well as jumps and multi-events. As a walk-on at McNeese State beginning in 2007, Chretien finished in the top three at the Southland Conference Championships and was the conference champion in 2012 when he earned First Team All-American honors. He was named the McNeese Athlete of the Year in 2011-12.
