Mikiah Smith enters his eighth consecutive season, 10th overall, as an assistant coach for the Beavers. Smith previously worked with the team from 2005-08. Smith works primarily with Oregon State's catchers and facilitates team conditioning. Smith is also the coordinator for all OSU Softball camps and fundraising campaigns.
A 1996 graduate of Canby High School, Smith played baseball and earned an Associates Degree at Mt. Hood Community College. Smith also played baseball at Western Illinois University.
Smith earned his undergraduate degree in exercise & sport science from Oregon State in 2001 and completed his masters of art in teaching in 2002.
Prior to his return to Corvallis in 2005, Smith spent two years as a physical education teacher and baseball coach at Desert Hot Springs High School in Palm Springs, CA, coaching alongside current San Jose State Baseball Head Coach, Jason Hawkins.Â
Smith married current Beaver softball director of operations and former OSU softball player, Heather Smith in August of 1999. The two were high school sweethearts at Canby High School. The couple has a daughter, Kiya, who was born Oct. 2003 and a son, Elijah, who was born Jan. 2006.
