The jumping, hurdling, sprinting and relay events at Oregon State set numerous school records and posted many top-10 marks in their first year under assistant coach Eric Schueffner.
Devin Collins set school records in the 100 (13.46) and 400 (58.64) hurdles; she also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles at the Pacific-12 Conference championships. Coollins also had the No. 4 all-time clocking in the 200 (24.53).
Sprinter/hurdler Kerissa D'Arpino set the school record in the 100 (11.77), the No. 3 time in the 200 (25.25) and posted the No. 3 all-time clocking in the 400 hurdles (1:00.20) in her initial season in that event.
OSU also set a school record in the 400 relay (46.01) and posted the No. 4 time (3:51.05) in the 1600 relay. The 400 relay took sixth at the Pac-12 championships, scoring at a conference meet for the first time since the program's 2006 re-instatement.
Long jumper Jasmin McKenzie and triple jumper Lucinda Howard established school indoor records in their respective events. Bethany Imperial had the No. 3 all-time indoors and No. 2 all-time oudoors triple jump. McKenzie posted top-10 marks in the outdoor triple and long jumps.
Kara Hallock, Howard and Saskia McNairy also posted all-time top-10 marks in the indoor long jump in 2016.
Schueffner joined the Beavers on Dec. 2, 2015, just in time for the 2016 indoor season. He came to Corvallis after five seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he was named associate head coach following the 2014-15 season.Â
Eric is a two-time winner (2013 indoor, 2015 outdoor) of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year. At Whitewater he coached athletes who combined for more than 25 NCAA Division III All-America citations, set 10 school records and won three national championships.He also coached for the men’s team at Wisconsin in 2010-11, specializing in multi-events, jumps and hurdles, and for the Badgers’ women’s team from 2004-06, focusing on sprints, hurdles and high jump.
Eric coached at Seattle University between his stints at Wisconsin, specializing in sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps. He also helped with fundraising, alumni events, camps, strength and conditioning and cross country training camp.
He began his coaching career at LaFollette High School in Madison, Wis., from 1999-2004 before moving on to Wisconsin. LaFollette won three conference championships and one WIAA state championship in his time there.
Eric is a native of Sheboygan Falls, Wis. He graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1996, with a degree in graphic design. He was a four-year letterman for the track team, specializing in middle distance, and was team captain and the conference’s scholar-athlete award winner as a senior.
He earned an MA in sports administration and leadership from Seattle University. He and his wife, Kerrie, have two daughters, Lilly and Cora.
