A.D. Report -- BASF Fund Drive
Jan. 24, 2011
Corvallis -
As we move into 2011, I'd like to thank all of you for your support this past year. We appreciate all of our donors and fans and need all of you to help expand Beaver Nation. By now, I hope you're familiar with our goal--12,000 Strong by 2012. Specifically, our goal is to nearly double our donor base in the next few years. This effort kicks into high gear when we launch our annual Beaver Athletic Student Fund (BASF) drive next week on Jan. 31. Our goal for this year is to grow from 6,500 to 8,500 donors with this year's fund drive. So any help from current donors to recruit new Beaver Believers is welcome. If we all just brought one new $100-a-year donor to the BASF we'd reach our goal. By following this link you can easily donate. Pass it on and share the link with your friends and family.
Feb. 1 is the day football season ticket renewals will be available online for the 2011 season. I'd like to take this opportunity to alert you to some changes you'll notice. As many of you are aware, we have been on a cycle since the late `90s to review BASF per-seat donation levels every three years. This year, we're changing that to an annual review of these donation levels. This will allow us to maximize season ticket sales and move toward our goal of consistent sell-outs while maximizing revenues to balance our budget. It also enables us to make adjustments based on what's happening in the market on a more timely basis. For a historical perspective of our BASF per-seat donation levels, look at this chart. It's important to note that season ticket prices are not increasing nor is the donation associated with parking. And, in most cases, per-seat donations are staying the same or decreasing. Here's the details:
· Out of a total of 75 different sections in the stadium that require a BASF per-seat donation, 47 of them are staying the same or decreasing from last year while 28 are increasing. This means that approximately 64 percent of the sections are decreasing or staying the same, and only 37 percent are increasing. (Reser Stadium map)
· In response to the overwhelming uptake of our new Valley View sections for the 2010 season, we've now removed the donation for seats not undercover in sections 111 and 121. Ticket prices will stay the same at $254, but a BASF donation will no longer be required.
· Outside of the Suites, Skyboxes and the Loge level, the highest per-seat donation increase is $100 per seat while the largest decrease is $200 per seat.
· As mentioned, season ticket prices will not be raised. General public tickets will be $254. Varsity "O", Under 30, Faculty/Staff and Senior Citizen tickets will all be $204. The Valley View seats will stay at $149. Family plan adult tickets will stay at $126 and a child's ticket will remain at $110.
I'm encouraged by the strides we took this year in terms of ticket sales. We sold a record number of season tickets--nearly 27,000 up nearly 4,000 from 2009--and set a Reser Stadium average attendance record of 45,509 fans at each home game--up approximately 3,000 from 2009. This annual per-seat donation review cycle we're moving to now will help us be more analytical and responsive to what's happening in the market and with our fans.
The focus for the next few months will be on our fund drive. We want to raise our donor numbers to provide the necessary resources to compete. Our vision for OSU athletics always has been to have a broad-based program that's competitive across all of our 17 sports. Your donations, which go toward all 17 sports programs --not just football--make this possible. Donated dollars represent so much more than prime stadium seating and parking spaces. Your contributions cover scholarship costs and help pay for everything from housing to equipment and books for our student-athletes. It's important to remember that through sport we have an opportunity to teach life lessons that are difficult to replicate in a traditional classroom. Through your BASF contributions, we're helping to develop our 500 student-athletes into tomorrow's leaders who are ready to compete in the global marketplace. They're learning, growing and working toward their future careers as proud OSU graduates.
In the fall, we had 46 student-athletes selected for Pac-10 All-Academic honors, including 14 from our football team, second only to Stanford. Our volleyball and cross country teams led the Pac-10 with their respective academic honorees. Additionally, nearly 50 percent of our entire student-athlete population made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll fall term. Our Everyday Champion student- athletes participated in more than 2,000 hours of community service reaching 10,000 youth in our community, highlighted by the Student Athlete Advisory Board-sponsored Fall Carnival. Our student-athletes work with many local philanthropic organizations and schools and helped with the Special Olympics Regional Championships held here in
As you can tell, there's more to our story and our student-athletes than what you typically read in the newspaper or see on TV; there's more that we're working toward than just win-loss records. That's why it's important that we all get on board to help Beaver Nation become 12,000 Strong by 2012. If you're already a donor, sincere thanks again for all you do. If you're not, consider joining BASF and helping our student-athletes by visiting our web site or calling 541-737-2370. Together, I know we can accomplish so much.
Go Beavs!
