Adam Haight set a career-high with four hits as Oregon State opened its series with a 5-1 win over UC Irvine Friday night. Haight doubled in the first and fifth innings, and singled in the third and seventh to finish 4-for-5. Dax Whitney struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings and allowed four hits and a run for his fourth win of the season. Up 2-0, the Beavers plated three runs in the fifth on singles by AJ Singer and Paul Vazquez and a successful squeeze bunt by Tyler Inge. Isaac Yeager and Wyatt Queen backed up Whitney with eight strikeouts in 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

• Oregon State won its 10th game all-time versus UC Irvine and is on a three-game win streak against the Anteaters, the longest in the series.
• Ethan Kleinschmit started against UC Irvine last season and scattered three runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He got the win in Oregon State's 7-4 victory, striking out eight in the process.
• Oregon State's 19 strikeouts as a team Friday marked the second-most of the season. The Beavers struck out 21 in the Feb. 20 win versus Baylor.
• Dax Whitney's ERA actually went up from 0.92 to 1.04 after allowing just one earned run in 5 1/3 innings Friday. He upped his strikeout tally to 65 on the year. He has struck out 11 or more in four of his six starts.
