February 06, 2026 | Softball
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Oregon State softball opened its regular season with a pair of games on Friday, defeating the Utah Tech Trailblazers 5-2 before falling on a walkoff single to hosts Long Beach State.
Game one: Oregon State 5, Utah Tech 2
A trio of freshmen were in the starting lineup and made an immediate impact in their collegiate debuts. Amelia Streuber, starting In the circle, struck out two batters in the first inning on her way to four in the game, while Mya Harrison and Camryn Gordon earned their first career starts.
Streuber finished with four hits allowed, one earned run and four strikeouts across 5.1 innings of work. Fellow freshman Bailey Murray came on in relief with one down in the sixth and finished the game with four strikeouts and two hits allowed in 1.2 innings of work, earning the save in her first work as a Beav.
Jada Lewis broke things open in the third inning, hitting her first career home run with a shot over the fence in right center to put the Beavs up 2-0; Gordon scored from second after leading off the inning with a single to left field. Lewis finished the first game 2-4 after singling in the first inning.
After three errors by the Utah Tech infield loaded the bases in the sixth, Rylei Trujillo stepped in as a pinch hitter and scored a runner with a sacrifice fly to right field. A native of Sacramento, Calif., Trujillo made 22 appearances last season, primarily as a designated player.
Though Utah Tech got on the board with a pair of runs in the sixth, Nikki Donahue slammed the door shut with a two-run single in the seventh, helping OSU to its first win of the 2026 season.
As a team, OSU hit .333 with an impressive .440 average with runners on, finishing the first game with five runs on 11 hits, one error and nine left on base.
Game two: Long Beach State 4, Oregon State 3
Both offenses were quiet at the beginning of game two but Morgan Howey opened the scoring three innings in, putting a 1-1 pitch over the wall in deep center field to put OSU ahead, 1-0, in the top of the inning. Howey's hit was the Beavers' first of the game and her third of the day, having finished 2-4 against Utah Tech; she added another hit in the fifth inning to finish 4-7 across both of the Beavers' games.
LBSU took a lead in the fourth inning but Jaeya Butler hit a two-run shot to deep right field in the top of the sixth, scoring Jada Lewis who had singled in the previous at bat. Butler, who was second on the roster last season with seven home runs, finished 1-3 in the game.
Kimberlee Aleman made her Oregon State debut in the circle, starting and allowing two earned runs across five innings pitched; Murray struck out one in one inning and Streuber also pitched late in the seventh.
